OCTOBER DEADLINE FOR EMPLOYERS TO REGISTER ON NEW WORK PERMIT SYSTEM

The Department of Labour and Workforce Development has set a deadline of October 31 for employers to register on the new Labour Management System (LMS), as the territory moves to a fully digital work permit renewal process.

The department noted that after this date, physical work permit renewal applications will no longer be accepted. Employers who have not yet registered are therefore being urged to do so by sending an email to lmshelp@gov.vg, providing information on the organisation name, contact person name and phone number, and official email address.

To help employers navigate the new system, free weekly training sessions are available once employers request a session by contacting the LMS support team via email.

The transition to the digital LMS is part of a broader upgrade to the territory’s labour management infrastructure. Earlier this year, Minister for Financial Services, Labour, and Trade, Hon. Lorna Smith, announced the procurement of the new system from Januvation Solutions Inc. at no additional cost to employers. The system, which is designed to manage all aspects of labour beyond just work permits, was expected to go live by June.

Minister Smith also outlined the financial commitment involved in maintaining the system, with annual fees of $120,000 for software and maintenance, until the territory can develop local capacity to handle those needs. In addition, Januvation Solutions is contracted for $89,500 to conduct training and facilitate the transition to the digital platform.

Minister Smith emphasized that the new integrated platform will provide significant benefits by streamlining processes and improving the ability to track and manage labour-related matters across the territory. This initiative marks a significant step forward in modernizing the labour system, enhancing efficiency for both employers and employees.

Employers are encouraged to register on the LMS before the October 31 deadline to ensure compliance and avoid disruptions to the work permit renewal process.
