District Two Representative the Honourable Melvin Turnbull has criticized the continued “band-aid” approach to fixing public infrastructure.
He voiced concerns in a recent House of Assembly session while questioning Premier Hon. Dr Natalio Wheatley about progress in repairing bathrooms in Jost Van Dyke and Cane Garden Bay.
Citing the significance of functional public restrooms, Turnbull stated a piecemeal approach is unacceptable.
Turnbull said he was “saddened” by claims in the Premier’s response that the issues were already addressed, saying that was “impossible” since he has firsthand proof otherwise. He challenged the Premier’s responses and called for more comprehensive solutions for public facilities, noting their importance to communities and tourism.
He argued that fully repairing and upgrading these facilities would have long-term benefits.
With tourism numbers continuing to grow, Turnbull emphasized the renewed urgency to address crumbling infrastructure in visitor hotspots.
284 Media recently paid a visit to the Brewers Bay Restroom and Waste Waster Facility to investigate the status of the facility after claims by Premier Wheatley, that the facility would be open soon, were met with skepticism from Hon. Turnbull.
