First District Representative Hon. Dr. Karl Dawson will make his first Annual District Report on Saturday 20th April at 7:00 PM at the Cappoon’s Bay Field. Hon. Dawson indicated that he has held several meetings in the District since being elected about one year ago, but he thought it useful to give an annual report around the anniversary of taking office. An annual district report was a key feature of the practice of his immediate predecessor in the District, Hon. Andrew Fahie.
According to Dr. Dawson, the report will not only consider his activities in the District, but also as a legislator, member of Government and as Junior Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries. Hon. Dawson said, “While the people of the First District did not elect me as Junior Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, it is because they elected me, that I currently have the role and as such, I am also accountable to them for my performance in that area.
Premier Hon. Dr. Natalio Wheatley and members of government are also expected to be present at the First District Report and bring brief greetings and reports on their assigned areas. Premier Wheatley said, “I commend Honourable Dawson for retaining this tradition started by Former Premier and District Representative, Andrew Fahie, that has been a feature of accountability in the District for some time.” He continued, “It is good for representatives to periodically and formally report to the constituents who elected them.”
The event is scheduled to take place at the Cappoon’s Bay Field at 7 pm, this coming Saturday and will also showcase some of the talent in the district. Residents of the First District and the general public are invited to attend.
