GOVERNOR TO PUBLISH FIRST COI REFORMS REVIEW THIS MONTH

Governor Daniel Pruce has announced he will publish his first quarterly report on the progress of implementing the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) reforms by the end of May. The report comes after facing backlash over an apparent lack of updates since taking office in January 2024.

Pruce made the announcement following an address to the media in observance of World Press Freedom Day on May 3rd. He revealed the report’s publication will mark his first comprehensive perspective on the territory’s efforts to enact the CoI recommendations.

The comments come after the Governor received criticism from local talkshow host Cindy Rosan who accused him of being less proactive than his predecessor.

Under the Virgin Islands’ revised Constitution Order, the Governor is mandated to publish quarterly reports and assessments on the territory’s adherence to the CoI implementation plan established in response to the 2022 inquiry into governance shortcomings.

While early deadlines were met  progress has slowed in recent months amidst pushback from local government officials.

All eyes will be on Governor Pruce’s first report later this month for clues on whether the reform implementation is running according to the timeline set by the UK government.
