HUMANE SOCIETY RECEIVES $100K DONATION FOR NEW SHELTER

A heartfelt donation of $100,000 from the late Jason Helmbrecht brings the Humane Society of the British Virgin Islands one step closer to realizing its dream of a new animal shelter.

Helmbrecht, a former resident of Cane Garden Bay, Tortola, and a passionate animal lover despite his allergies, passed away in January 2023.

Tiffany Doyle, Helmbrecht’s partner, presented the donation cheque to Shelter Manager Vijay Bissoondutt at the new shelter location in Josiah’s Bay. The contribution is a testament to Helmbrecht’s love for animals and his commitment to their welfare, ensuring that his legacy lives on in the work of the Humane Society.

Speaking to 284 Media, Bissoondutt expressed profound gratitude for the donation, acknowledging the immense impact it will have on the acceleration of the shelter’s completion.

The new shelter project has faced various challenges, however, with this substantial donation, the Humane Society is optimistic about overcoming these obstacles. Bissoondutt elaborated on the progress made thus far.

The Humane Society of the BVI is a non-profit organization, founded in 1975 and is the only animal shelter in the BVI, that offers a safe shelter to dogs, puppies, cats & kittens that have been abandoned and in some cases severely abused.
