PUBLIC SERVICE TRAINING REACHES JOST VAN DYKE

The Virgin Islands Public Service Learning Institute (VIPSLI) has successfully completed its Public Service 101 course on the island of Jost Van Dyke, marking the third of the Territory’s four main islands where the training has been conducted.

Over the three-day course, public officers from various critical departments on Jost Van Dyke received comprehensive information about the Government’s systems, framework, best practices for public officers, and a wide range of knowledge to assist them in achieving success in their roles.

Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Sharleen DaBreo-Lettome, MBE, commended the success of the Public Service 101 program so far and reiterated the Department of Human Resources’ commitment to providing learning and development opportunities for public officers across the Territory.

“Public officers, especially those serving on our Sister Islands, play a critical role in the successful delivery of the Government’s services to our communities,” Mrs. DaBreo-Lettome stated. “Through the institute, the Department of Human Resources is steadily working to ensure that every public officer, on every island, is afforded the opportunity to develop themselves personally and professionally.”

Dr. Connie E. George, Interim Director of the Virgin Islands Public Service Learning Institute, emphasized the importance of the Public Service 101 course, saying, “The completion of this edition underscores our commitment to ensuring public officers are well-versed about the organization in which they work. The Public Service 101 course is a vital starting point as we seek to advance the work of the Public Service.”

Since its launch in 2023, the institute has hosted five Public Service 101 sessions, including one tailored specifically for educators. To date, over 500 public officers have earned Essential Learning Hours through their attendance at Public Service 101.

The Virgin Islands Public Service Learning Institute’s vision is “To develop a world-class Public Service filled with highly skilled and adaptable officers.” The Government of the Virgin Islands remains committed to building a world-class Public Service through continuous learning and development opportunities.

With Jost Van Dyke now covered, the institute plans to bring the Public Service 101 course to Anegada in the coming weeks, completing its reach across the Territory’s four main islands.
