The Unite for the Sea flagship programme was founded by Unite BVI in 2018. The programme is aimed at inspiring a love for the ocean across the British Virgin Islands.
The core goals are:
1. To EXPERIENCE safety in the sea by learning to swim, snorkel or dive
2. To LEARN about BVI relevant ocean conservation topics
3. To LOVE and PROTECT by caring about the future of the ocean
Partnering with grantees in the ocean space, Unite BVI sponsors over 500 young people through 7 of independently operated youth programmes to teach fun, educational, water-based activities, such as swimming, snorkeling, and diving lessons.

This year, the educational theme is “BIG Fish”. Fun activities and programming will include a focus on fish identification for large species of fish, such as grouper, sharks, swordfish, etc. and the importance of maintaining and balancing a healthy ocean eco system for generations. Unite for the Sea, Programme Coordinator, is most excited about: “Inspiring a love for the sea. The impact is tangible, I have witnessed young people go from fearing the ocean to becoming fearless, fierce advocates for the protection of the ocean and everything in it.” – Enya Douglas
As always, the team said, they hope to inspire awareness of the elimination of single use plastics and how everyone can reduce their waste and reuse to protect our seas.
