BVIHSA & MINISTRY OF HEALTH LAUNCH CATCH-UP VACCINATION CLINIC

The British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority (BVIHSA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Development, announces the immediate launch of the jointly organized Catch-Up Vaccination Clinics. These urgent clinics are crucial for children who have missed either their first or second dose of their MMR vaccine, along with other essential immunizations and will ensure they are fully protected from vaccine preventable diseases.

Starting July 6th, these Catch-Up clinics will open every Saturday, offering a convenient solution for busy parents and guardians. The walk-in format eliminates the need for prior appointments, making it easier than ever to ensure children are protected.

Nurse Ferrosa Roache, Public Health Nurse Manager of the BVIHSA, in her encouragement to parents to have their children vaccinated stated, “Diseases such as measles are extremely contagious and can have devastating consequences, particularly for young children. We cannot afford to have any child left unprotected. By offering these clinics on Saturdays and without the need for appointments, we are removing barriers to ensure all children receive the necessary vaccinations.”

Similarly, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ronald Georges reminded, “The Caribbean recently experienced a reintroduction of measles with an outbreak in TCI early this year, after being declared measles free since 2016.  TCI had over 90% coverage for measles second dose and were able to quickly contain their outbreak.  BVI second dose measles coverage is below 75% and an outbreak here will be much more difficult to manage.  We therefore strongly urge all parents and guardians to avail themselves of the opportunity provided by these Catch-up clinics.”  “Protect your child and protect the community from vaccine preventable diseases”, the Chief Medical Officer urged.

For ease and convenience, the clinics will be available at three locations: The Rosalind Penn Clinic in Long Look, the Theresa Smith Blyden Clinic in Cappoon’s Bay, and the Road Town Health Centre in Road Town.
