BVI LEGAL ICON HONOURED IN CARIBBEAN-WIDE DOCUMENTARY

The British Virgin Islands’ legal community has reason to celebrate as one of its own has been recognized among the Caribbean’s most exceptional legal practitioners.

A documentary, “Legendary Caribbean Legal Practitioners,” featuring 48 outstanding lawyers from across the region, was unveiled on Wednesday, July 17 by the CCJ Academy for Law, the educational branch of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ).

This recognition highlights the territory’s significant contribution to regional jurisprudence. The BVI’s honouree,  Dr. Joseph Archibald K.C. stands as a testament to the high calibre of legal expertise cultivated in the BVI.

The documentary, which is the third instalment in the Academy’s Eminent Caribbean Jurist series, was launched in conjunction with the inaugural “Legal Conference on Criminal Justice Reform – Advancing the Needham’s Point Declaration” held on July 10-11, 2024, in Georgetown, Guyana.

While the BVI secured one spot in this elite group, other territories represented include Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.

The documentary is now available for viewing on YouTube, offering an opportunity for BVI residents, especially those in the legal profession and law students, to learn from and be inspired by the achievements of these Caribbean legal luminaries, including the BVI’s own.
