The Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta Committee is excited to announce Mr. Cyril Molyneaux as the 2024 Fisherman’s Tournament honoree. Mr. Stoutt said, “This year’s tournament is set to be an event to remember.”
Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta is proud to honor Mr. Molyneaux of Long Bay for his 70+ years of fishing. He started fishing at the age of 11, often accompanying his father, the late John Molyneaux, on their boat named “The Provider.” The boat was so named because it provided for their family. Now 82 years old, he is still fishing to this day.
His advice to those interested in fishing is as follows: “Fishing is a lot of work. You need to have a lot of patience and always thank God for what you catch. Remember, you are always fishing with the tide.”
Chairman of the Carrot Bay Cultural Committee, Jabari Stoutt, said, “I am excited to honor Mr. Molyneaux, a longtime fisherman in our community who continues to fish to this day and plays a crucial role in keeping the culture alive in the western side of the island. We believe it will not only embrace and preserve our rich cultural heritage but also ensure that traditions are passed down to the next generation.”
This year’s Fisherman’s Tournament will be held in Carrot Bay on Thursday, August 8th. The public is invited to attend from 4 PM until. Bring your family and join us for a day filled with fun, unity, and excitement. The event will feature family-friendly entertainment and prizes for Most Catch, Biggest Fish, and Special Fish. This year’s tournament promises to be the best one yet.
