INLAND REVENUE REMINDS PROPERTY OWNERS OF 2024 TAX DEADLINES

The Inland Revenue Department is reminding property owners in the Virgin Islands that the 2024 Property Tax is due and payable between September 1 and November 30.

This reminder comes in accordance with the Property Tax Ordinance, Cap 207 (as amended).

The 2024 Property Tax list, which includes the names of property owners, descriptions of the properties, and the amounts of tax due, has been published and is available for public viewing. The list can be accessed at various public buildings across the territory, including the Inland Revenue Department offices on Tortola and Virgin Gorda, as well as the District Offices on Anegada and Jost Van Dyke. For added convenience, the list is also available online on the BVI government’s website.

Property owners who disagree with the assessed tax amount on their properties have the opportunity to file an objection. Hearings for objections will be held before the Magistrate at the following locations and times:

  • Tortola, Anegada, Jost Van Dyke, and other locations within the BVI: Monday, September 2, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at the Magistrate’s Court in the old CTL building, Pasea.
  • Virgin Gorda: Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at the Magistrate’s Court in the Valley, Virgin Gorda.

The Inland Revenue Department strongly encourages property owners to pay their 2024 Property Tax within the specified period to avoid incurring additional charges. An interest rate of twenty percent will be applied to late payments. Additionally, property owners with outstanding tax balances are advised to either settle their accounts or arrange a payment plan with the department.

It is also important to note that legal transactions involving “Stamp Duty” will not be processed unless all property taxes related to the parcel in question have been paid.

Property owners are urged to take prompt action to meet the tax deadlines and avoid any potential complications.
