WINNERS OF ‘HUNT FOR THE CURE’ RECEIVE AWARDS AT CIBC CARIBBEAN

The winners of the 4th annual “Hunt for the Cure” car treasure hunt gathered at the CIBC Caribbean Tortola branch on Tuesday, October 1, to receive their prizes as part of CIBC’s ongoing Walk for the Cure campaign.

The event, held on Saturday, September 14, was organized to raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer, with all proceeds supporting the BVI Cancer Society.

This year’s winners, including both private and corporate teams, took on a series of challenges and clues in their quest for first place. Ms. Gloria Fahie, President of the BVI Cancer Society, presented the prizes to the top four teams, recognizing their participation and commitment to the cause.

Team X from Harneys claimed first place for the third consecutive year, completing the treasure hunt in just two hours and 45 minutes. As a reward for their stellar performance, they won a day sail with Horizon Yacht Charters. Team X’s consistent success and Horizon’s ongoing sponsorship highlight the excitement and dedication that the Hunt for the Cure inspires.

Pretty Pink Potters finished in second place, completing the hunt in three hours and 21 minutes. Their efforts earned them a day sail with The Moorings. Team CCT BVI came in third, finishing in three hours and six minutes, only missing one clue. Their prize is an exciting ATV tour on Jost Van Dyke, courtesy of Salt Life Adventure.

In addition to the main prize categories, Clowns for the Cure won in the special categories, taking home awards for Best Dressed Vehicle, Best Dressed Team, and Best Message of Hope. Their message, read by team member Mrs. Julia Dawson, inspired participants: “Join the battle. Be the CURE. Be the Community raising awareness, United in our efforts, Responding to those in need, Educated in early detection and healthy living.”

Mr. Fabian Devonish, Branch Manager of Retail, Platinum, and Business Banking, and Walk Manager for CIBC Caribbean, congratulated all participants. “We know that fun was had because each hunter returned with big smiles and told us how much they enjoyed solving the clues and special challenge activities,” said Devonish. “Many of you are repeat hunters, and some of you are first-timers. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next year!”

The Hunt for the Cure is one of several events organized in collaboration with the BVI Cancer Society as part of the 2024 Walk for the Cure campaign. This year’s events have included a Sip and Paint for the Cure and the 3rd annual Hike for the Cure. The final event in this series, the Walk for the Cure, will take place on October 5.

Ms. Gloria Fahie expressed her gratitude to all participants for their continued support. “Your participation not only raises funds but also raises awareness within the wider community. Every step you take in support of this cause counts,” she said, encouraging everyone to join the upcoming Walk for the Cure.
