MINISTRY OF EDUCATION LAUNCHES FOOTBALL FOR SCHOOLS PROGRAMME

The Ministry of Education is partnering with the BVI Football Association (BVIFA) and FIFA in the official launch of the Football for Schools programme.

This initiative aims to enhance Physical Education (PE) by formally incorporating soccer into the curriculum, fostering students’ love for the sport, and promoting holistic development through athletics.

As part of the initiative, several PE teachers underwent specialised training provided by the association’s coaching professionals and technical specialists and have earned their Class D Coaching Certification. This equips the educators to deliver football instruction within their respective schools.

Football for Schools is currently being implemented at the Francis Lettsome Primary School, Leonora Delville Primary School, Bregado Flax Educational Centre – Primary Division, Alexandrina Maduro Primary School, and the Claudia Creque Educational Centre.

Schools participating in the programme will benefit from a support system, including access to resources, structured curriculum frameworks, and continued support for coaches. This collaboration represents a significant step forward in expanding PE programmes to encourage active lifestyles and cultivate and develop talent in football in the Virgin Islands.
