RVIPF & US CUSTOMS MAKE LARGEST DRUG BUST AT SEA IN BVI HISTORY

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) and US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) carried out a joint operation on Tuesday night that resulted in the largest maritime drug seizure in the Territory’s history.

Shortly after 8pm on March 5th, law enforcement intercepted a go-fast vessel just off Hodges Creek on the east end of Tortola. During the interdiction, officers discovered a  60 bales of cocaine on board the vessel.

The occupants of the go-fast immediately abandoned the boat at Hodges Creek Marina and fled on foot. Despite an extensive search of the surrounding area, the suspects remain at large. However, the vessel itself was successfully secured and is now in police custody as investigations continue.

In a statement to the press on Wednesday, Commissioner of Police Mark Collins hailed the overnight operation as a tremendous success and significant milestone in anti-drug efforts.

“This commendable joint operation resulted in the largest sea seizure to date. The successful interception underscores our unwavering commitment to eradicating illicit activities in the region”, Collins stated.

The RVIPF is urging anyone with information about Tuesday’s incident or the identities of the suspects to immediately come forward. Persons can call the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477, or contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit directly at 368-9339. All tips will be crucial in assisting the ongoing investigation.
