A boating tragedy unfolded late Thursday night, September 5, as a vessel traveling from Jost Van Dyke began taking on water, leading to the death of a young woman and the continued search for a missing man.
The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) reported that a distress call was placed at around 10:00 p.m. by a male passenger aboard the troubled vessel. The boat had encountered difficulties and was rapidly taking on water. In response, a coordinated rescue operation was swiftly launched by the RVIPF Marine Unit and Virgin Islands Search and Rescue (VISAR).
During the search, rescue teams discovered the partially submerged vessel. Tragically, the body of a young woman was found near the scene. Despite exhaustive efforts, the male individual who made the distress call remains missing.
The vessel and the deceased were transported to the Virgin Islands Law Enforcement Marine Base, where the young woman was officially pronounced dead. Authorities have not yet released her identity.
Search operations continue in the area for the missing individual, with the RVIPF calling on anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Marine Unit at 368-9349 or 368-9462. The police assure the public that all tips and information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
