BVIEC INTRODUCES STEP: A SOLAR SOLUTION TO SLASH ELECTRICITY BILLS

In a bid to alleviate the burden of high electricity expenses on residents of the British Virgin Islands (BVI), the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) has unveiled its groundbreaking Solar Technology Energy Programme (STEP).

The initiative, announced by the Minister for Communication and Works Honourable Kye Rymer during a press conference on Thursday, promises to revolutionize the energy landscape of the region.

Dubbed STEP, the programme is designed to offer substantial relief to residents grappling with soaring electricity bills while aligning with the government’s commitment to fostering cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.

Minister Rymer underscored the pivotal role STEP will play in assisting residents in achieving lower electricity costs, emphasizing its contribution to the broader goal of advancing environmentally friendly energy practices.

Central to STEP’s appeal is its potential to deliver significant savings, with Minister Rymer asserting that participants could slash their electricity bills by as much as 50 percent. Notably, the upfront expenses associated with equipment procurement and installation will be entirely absorbed by the BVIEC, mitigating financial barriers and ensuring widespread accessibility to the programme.

To gauge public interest and facilitate enrollment, the BVIEC will roll out a comprehensive survey for interested individuals to complete and register their participation.

The introduction of STEP marks a significant milestone in the BVIEC’s ongoing efforts to promote energy efficiency and affordability, signalling a paradigm shift towards renewable energy adoption in the territory.
