PREMIER CELEBRATES BUSINESSES COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

On Tuesday, the Office of the Premier celebrated 30 local businesses that have taken the VI Green Pledge, fortifying their commitment towards environmental sustainability in the British Virgin Islands.

The pledges were made during the 11th OECS Council of Ministers for Environment Sustainability meeting last month.

The list of participating businesses spans various sectors. The list provided included: Caribbean Insurers Ltd, Ogier, The Bitter End Yacht Club, Regency Yacht Vacations, Therapy Works, CCP Financial Consultants Limited, The Charter Yacht Society of the BVI, TICO Wine & Spirits Merchants, Ernst & Young Ltd, Brew Coffee Shops, Red Coral Properties Ltd, Nanny Cay Resort and Marina, Rosewood Little Dix Bay, Sebastian’s on the Beach, TMM Yacht Charters, BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival, Republic Bank (BVI) Limited, Sageroots, Tradewinds, Conyers, Oil Nut Bay, National Bank of the Virgin Islands, The Aerial, Voyage Charters, Mourants, Smiths Gore, TMF Global, O’Neal Webster, Capriccio di Mare, Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour, Virgin Gorda Villa Rentals, Guavaberry Vacation Rentals, St. Mary’s Anglican Church, The Moorings, Long Bay Resort, Aeropost.

“Together, we are turning aspiration into focused action for a sustainable future,” the Premier’s Office stated.

The Green Pledge Programme encourages all businesses and organisations, including NGOs, service groups and church groups in The Virgin Islands, to “Go Green” by reducing their environmental impact and increasing their environmental stewardship. 

The Green Pledge Programme was launched by the former Conservation and Fisheries Department in June 2012 in celebration of Environment Month. 

The Green Pledge Programme is now managed by the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change in partnership with Green VI.

The Government is also partnering with Green VI to further develop and establish a Green Certification Programme for The Virgin Islands through which businesses and organisations can achieve Bronze, Silver, Gold and Leadership levels of certification which will deliver greater benefits and rewards.
