Sir Richard Branson has announced that the Strive Challenge, a multi-discipline adventure that combines physical feats with philanthropy, is heading to the British Virgin Islands this summer.
In a recent blog post, the Virgin Group founder revealed that a unique edition of the Strive Challenge will take place from August 16-22 on his private island home, Necker Island.
“This upcoming Strive will be a little different but no less special – we’re hosting it here in the British Virgin Islands on Necker Island. I can’t wait to welcome the Strivers and put them through their paces on my favourite challenges,” Branson wrote.
The eccentric billionaire outlined an action-packed itinerary awaiting participants that includes cycling Virgin Gorda’s infamous hills, kayaking, hobie sailing, snorkeling, kitesurfing, e-foiling, hiking Salt Island, scuba diving, beach olympics and an ambitious swim from Oil Nut Bay to Necker Island.
While the physical challenges are daunting, Branson emphasized the higher purpose that has fueled Strive since its inception a decade ago by his children Sam and Holly, and nephew Noah – raising funds for educational initiatives and innovation.
“Everyone who takes on the Strive Challenge has been impacted by the education system and is determined to transform it,” he stated. To date, the event has raised over £7.75 million for the Big Change charity supporting “education leaders and projects challenging the system.”
Beyond the philanthropic impact, Branson credits the annual Strive tradition with kickstarting his personal commitment to an active, healthy lifestyle and fitness regimen years ago.
Camaraderie is another core tenet, with Branson adding: “Strive always attracts a diverse and interesting group, from disruptive entrepreneurs to passionate philanthropists…all with fascinating stories to tell.”
This year, serial entrepreneur Meghan Asha and Peloton’s head instructor Robin Arzon are set to co-host the BVI edition alongside Branson’s family members.
