BVI FARMERS EXPANDING TOURISM PRODUCT

In a positive development for the British Virgin Islands’ agricultural and tourism sectors, Junior Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, Dr. the Honourable Karl Dawson, has commended local farmers for their innovative approach to farming.

Speaking at the Territorial Address last Thursday, Dr. Dawson highlighted the farmers’ efforts to diversify their farms by incorporating tours for both residents and tourists, thus enhancing the BVI’s tourism product.

He revealed that an increasing number of farmers have begun expanding their operations to offer farm tours, providing visitors with a unique and immersive experience. This initiative not only adds significant value to the territory’s tourism offerings but also opens up a new revenue stream for the farmers.

The move to blend agriculture with tourism aligns with the broader goal of creating sustainable and diverse economic opportunities within the territory. With these new initiatives, visitors can now enjoy firsthand experiences of local farming practices, sample fresh produce, and learn about the rich agricultural heritage of the BVI.

This trend according to the junior minister not only enhances the visitor experience but also fosters a deeper appreciation for the islands’ agricultural landscape.
