HEALTH OFFICIAL PROVIDES DATA ON RISING STD RATES

A health official in the British Virgin Islands has provided supporting data that explains the extent of the growth of sexually transmitted diseases in the territory.

Chief Nursing Officer Jacinth Hannibal of the Ministry of Health and Social Development during her recent appearance on the government-commissioned programme “Health Bytes,” provided data highlighting the extent of this troubling trend.

She revealed that since 2019, the territory has recorded 23 cases of HIV, alongside 10 cases of syphilis which was reported just last year.

Hannibal emphasized the importance of recognizing sexual health as a fundamental right and urged individuals experiencing sexual health issues to seek prompt testing and assistance.

The chief nursing officer also spoke about the benefits of seeking early help and how it can assist with extending one’s livelihood.”

Hannibal’s remarks underscore the pressing need for increased awareness and proactive measures to address sexual health in the British Virgin Islands.
