5.7 Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Puerto Rico!

A 5.7 magnitude earthquake hit Puerto Rico this morning causing some damage and power outages. The quake hit just 9 miles off the coast of Guanica causing several minor landslides that were reported around the island. Officials say this was the strongest quake since tremors began over a week ago. Those earthquakes have ranged in magnitude from 4.7 to 5.1 but there were no tsunami warnings issued.

While there were no immediate reports of casualties there was significant damages in the town of Guánica.

The quake unleashed small landslides, causing major power outages and severely cracking some homes.

Two Vehicles crushed by collapsed house.

The was followed by a string of smaller temblors, including another quake measured at magnitude 5.0 that struck later Monday, at 10:51 a.m. shaking power lines and frightening residents of southern Puerto Rico who had been waiting outside their homes due to fears the buildings were damaged and unstable.

Weather experts are duly concerned about what this means for the region and after reaching out to DDM today, our newsroom was told that the BVI will be updated shortly on the series of events.
