During the recently held first District report, Premier and First district representative Hon. Andrew Fahie announced that plans are underway to develop more than 600 acres of land on Beef Island Tortola, in close proximity to the territory’s main airport.
Fahie announced that the land to be developed will be transferred from the BVI Airports Authority to government.
While the Premier did not elaborate on plans for the area he did said: “We have to unleash the potential of the BVI, we have to wake up the sleeping giant.”
He said the move is necessary, “so that we can develop those lands which will also provide additional income and opportunities for the territory.”
This is not the first time that land at Beef Islands has been rumored for development, however it is the first time we see government taking on a such a public stance.
In years gone by many private developers have shown much interest in developing the property. We would all remember the highly controversial Golf Course development talks which caused quite a sir, with many locals formulating petitions against the said development.
While it is unclear as to what plans the Premier and his government have for some 600 acres, much is left to be seen as to the way forward and how soon.
