The 2020 Inter Secondary Schools’ debate series hosted by the Ministry of Education and Culture commences today, January 27th at the Althea Scatliffe Primary School at 5:30pm. Six debates will be held over the duration of 3 rounds, a preliminary, semi-final and finals round.
The preliminary round kicks off today at 5:30p.m. Today’s moot to be debated is “Parents should be held legally responsible for behaviors of underage children.” Cedar International School will lead the proposing side of the argument and St. Georges Secondary School will oppose.
Shortly after at 6:30p.m., Debate 2 will commence exploring the moot: “The popularity of skin lightening is testament to the racism/colorism that plagues Caribbean societies. Claudia Creque Educational Center will propose and The Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies will oppose the topic.
Debate #3 is scheduled for Thursday January 30th at 5:30 also at the Althea Scatliffe Primary school.

The secondary debates are held annually by the Ministry of Education. These debates serve the students of our territory in many ways such as improving critical thinking and academic skills, as well as improves mental and emotional maturity. It also prepares many students for additional debate competitions and showcase the hard work of individual debate societies across the schools in the Virgin Islands.
