RIBBON TO BE CUT ON NEW IN-TRANSIT LOUNGE AT T.B. LETTSOME INT’L AIRPORT

On 1st February, 2020, the BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) will be launching its In-Transit Lounge at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport to accommodate air passengers who are transiting through the airport to catch connecting flights to their final destination.

This is set to have a positive impact on the experience of transiting passengers as more airlines are using the airport at Beef Island as a hub to other Caribbean airports. This facility will also encourage growth in this industry.

The industry will earn revenue from the $10 levy that will be charged to transiting passengers.

Premier of the Virgin Islands, Hon. Andrew Fahie, praised the new leadership of the BVIAA, he said “The British Virgin Islands Airports Authority (BVIAA), under the leadership of its new Board, continues to make strides in improving the quality of service to travellers using our airports, and in increasing the revenue generation capacity of the assets under its management”

He continued “What is even more commendable is that the current Board and management have been able to achieve this simply by repurposing a space that was previously underutilized and conducting some renovations to the space to outfit it for this purpose.”

He commends the board and management of the T.B. Lettsome Airport for making maximum use of what they already have.

The Premier have expressed his views on the continuous expansion and upgrading of the airport. He admits that it will take time and money but in the meanwhile he believes that the territory and the government have to use what they have and make the most of it.
