ESHS STUDENT SUFFERS BROKEN JAW FROM HIT AND RUN ACCIDENT!

A 17-year-old boy and student of the Elmore Stoutt High School was a victim of a hit and run incident that occurred on February 4th and has left him with a broken jaw. He is nursing a broken mandible two places that required corrective surgery in St. Thomas. As a result, his mouth has been wired shut and according to his doctor, he will remain in that state for atleeast two months to facilitate healing. In the meantime, the victim is forced to consume food through a straw and of course and is unable to speak.

His mother Nellisha Peters, an employee at the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital said that on the morning in question, she dropped her son off within at Delta Gas Station to head off to school. She relayed that upon pulling into the parking lot at the hospital, she received a call informing that her son was in the emergency room and was encouraged to come immediately. Subsequently, she was told that a young man riding a scooter rode into her child and immediately left the scene without attempting to get medical help for the victim. A passerby eventually transported the student to the hospital.

Ms. Peters said a report was made at the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force and the perpetrator was brought in for questioning but was later released without a formal charge being filed against him.  Though the RVIPF is requesting a formal statement from the victim, the mother has said it is difficult to transport the child in such a troubled state. Ms. Peters expressed her displeasure with the investigative process and wants the relevant authorities to look into the severity on the accident and the injuries sustained by her son.

Both her and the child’s father Dwayne Nibbs are disappointed that (8) days later, the police are yet to make an arrest and file a charge against the perpetrator in question.

Our team reached out to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force but was told that the matter is under investigation and as a result no further information can be shared at this time.

We have the name of the student and the name of the alleged perpetrator but will respectfully withhold until a formal release is made.

More details to follow.
