Over the weekend, Hon. Natalio D. Wheatley, in the capacity of Representative of the 7th electoral district and Hon. Shereen Flax-Charles, At-Large Representative and Junior Minister for Trade and Economic Development, met with the residents of Brandywine Bay to discuss the development of Brandywine Bay Beach.
This project was one that has been promised by previous administrations but was never fulfilled. This was a sentiment echoed by the residents repeatedly during the course of the meeting.
The development of Brandywine Bay Beach first started in 2015, when the beach was dredged, widened and the beachfront was reclaimed. After this the development plans stalled.
Hon. Wheatley promised the residents a tourist attraction that will be envied by many, a place where families can gather and enjoy various activities. He anticipated a 4 to 5 year timeline for the completion of the project.
The government entered into discussion with OBMI Architecture about the designs and plans for the future beach developments. OBMI Architecture is the architectural firm behind local luxury resorts, Rosewood Little Dix Bay and Oil Nut Bay, Virgin Gorda.
The plans for the beach include a fisherman’s wharf, where regular fish fries can be hosted. The minister also listed a band stand, watersports rental, boat ramp, board walk, top-class restaurant and vendor booths. Provisions were also made for a bus-drop off and car parking area.
The elected officials and the residents of Brandywine Bay is excited for the development of the beach.
