ST GEORGE’S SCHOOL TO CLOSE ON WEDNESDAY FOLLOWING CORONAVIRUS SCARE

The St. George’s Primary School Division has made a decision to close the school from Wednesday March 18th, 2020 as a precautionary measure against the novel coronavirus.

The correspondence from Ms. Anderson-Rogers (Principal) reads:

Good Day Parent(s)
It is out of an abundance of caution and concern that I reach out to you again on this Global Coronavirus Pandemic. Since the last correspondence there has been numerous developments in the region; developments that we could not ignore as an institution that place optimum value on student and staff health and safety.

As a result, I wish to furnish you with the following information.
We will close our doors to normal classroom instruction on Wednesday March 18th, 2020 at 12:00 noon. This means that we will not continue to have face to face interaction with our students, but instead, use a different
structure. Academic Support Packages have been prepared for all grades and can be collected from class teachers on Wednesday March 18th, 2020. Every Academic Support Package includes an easy to follow calendar of activities detailing the activities to be completed on each day. It also includes worksheets and links to educational resources such as videos that students should view and listen to. There are also instructions that allow students to use their textbooks.

For Reception to Grade One where their books are kept by the class teacher, they will be required to take their textbooks home. All work assigned in the Academic Support Packages are revision and practice exercises. Class teachers will make arrangements with parents to determine the best form of communication based on your resources. Some classes have already sent out invites to ClassDojo to parents. Others will continue to use the means of communication that they are already using. Teachers are still at work and will be available to address any matters regarding the learning that will take place at home.

We understand that not all parents are able to provide the required level of assistance and we will continue to perform our duties in this regard
through technology. Please note that our students will not be disadvantaged. On our original school calendar, this week of March
16th, 2020 was designated as revision week, the week of March 23rd, 2020 as Exam Week and the final Week of March 30th, as issuing and collecting of reports. This further means, that no new content would have been
introduced this week.

With our alternative plan, there will be no End of Term Exams. We will use the grades that have been accumulated throughout this term to allot a final grade to our students. We assure that this bold move is all in an effort to safeguarding our students’ health. The circumstances are not normal and we will not move along as though they are.

We thank you for your usual cooperation and support as we
“Aspire To Be The Best With God’s Help”.
