Earlier this evening, the Premier of the Virgin Islands, Hon. Andrew A. Fahie, announced new curfew measures following the confirmation of 2 cases of the Coronavirus, COVID-19, in the territory.
Under the amended Curfew Act 2017, the curfew will take effect from today Wednesday from 8pm to 6 am. The same protocol follows for Thursday. However, on Friday from 8pm, all residents are mandated by law to remain indoors until April 2nd. This means for 24 hours daily no resident is allowed outside, with the exception of essential workers.
Persons are mandated to adhere to these measures as they will be enforced by the Royal Virgin Isands Police Force.
Standing in solidarity with the Premier, Governor Jaspert said “these are restrictions on liberty and we wouldn’t take restrictions on liberty unless there is a real reason to do so. And that reason to do so is we want to make sure that we minimize the impact of coronavirus in the territory.”
