The Premier of the Virgin Islands has just confirmed the territory’s first two cases of the novel Coronavirus, COVID-19.
In a press conference today the territory’s leader said both patients entered the territory through the Terrence B. International Airport. Even though the cases are unrelated, they are under mandatory quarantine while their close contacts have been identified for further investigations.
The first is a 32-year-old male who travelled into the territory from New York on March 10th, 2020. The second victim is a 56-year who travelled from Europe to the BVI on March 15th.
The Health Minister Carvin Malone further confirmed that 9 persons are under investigation pending results.
Additionally, 27 persons have been tested resulting in 25 negative cases while 117 are constricted to self-quarantine protocols, inclusive of the two cases confirmed today.
In closing Premier Fahie said “now is the time for all of us to remain prayed up so that we can be calm for this worldwide pandemic”.
