The Minister of Health and Social Development, Hon. Carvin Malone has provided an update on the statistics of the COVID-19 virus, both locally and globally.
In a press conference yesterday, the BVI has recorded its first two confirmed cases of the novel Coronavirus, COVID-19. The Health Minister stated that the victims are a 32-year-old man who travelled into the territory from New York on March 10th, and a 56-year-old man who travelled from Europe on March 15th.
In addition, Minister Malone mentioned ” 2 confirm cases, 27 total persons tested, 9 persons under investigation, 117 persons self-quarantine.” On the contrary, The Ministry of Health and Social Development confirmed that only 107 persons are currently self-quarantined and not 117 as the Minister stated.
Currently, there are 24 countries, areas or territories in the Caribbean affected by the novel Coronavirus, COVID-19.
After this revelation, the BVI government has taken swift action to minimize the spread of the virus. Subsequently, the government announced a mandatory curfew.
