Territory leader Andrew Fahie just announced a new curfew order that will see the BVI under a mandatory 24-hour lockdown until April 16th; this is with the exception of three days.
Residents across the territory will now have an opportunity to utilize essential services from Thursday April 2nd to Saturday April 4th, 2020 in a strict, managed approach phased as follows:
- Essential workers and persons with responsibility to shop for seniors will be allowed from 6am to 8am from April 2nd– April 4th
- Thursday April 2nd, residents with surnames beginning with “A- I” will be allowed from 8am-6pm.
- Friday April 3rd, residents with surnames beginning with “J-R” will be allowed from 8am-6pm.
- Saturday April 4th, residents with surnames beginning with “S-Z” will be allowed from 8am-6pm.
- Persons under self-quarantine are NOT allowed to venture outside of their homes to utilize services. Authorized personnel will assist with ensuring that those persons have what they need for the 14-day lockdown.
Only residents within the designated categories will be allowed out for limited period during the days outlined. As a result, all residents are encouraged to walk with a personal ID which will be checked by all essential companies with further reinforcement from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force.
The Premier further announced that his Government is partnering with the Family Support Network to provide essential support to families who cannot afford to shop for 14 days. These residents are encouraged to reach out to FSN immediately.
Governor J.U Jaspert further said that during the 3-day managed curfew all residents are warned against partaking in activities outside of the what is considered essential. This means that no one is allowed to visit family, friends or partake in any recreational activity or gathering to minimize the spread of COVID-19.
Additionally, essential service providers are advised to abide by all social distancing protocols encouraged by the Ministry of Health.
