In a LIVE press conference, Premier of the Virgin Islands and Minister of Fiance, Honorable Andrew Fahie announced that no new confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus has presented itself in the territory of the Virgin Islands. This fact have influenced the decision to end the territory wide lock-down as of April 19th, 2020.
Premier Fahie explained that as of April 19th until June 1st, the British Virgin Islands will enter into the first phase of reopening the territory. This phase focuses on the internal reopening of the territory. During this time the border will remain closed.
Here are some facts:
As of April 19th, a new curfew will be imposed. The night curfew will run from 7p.m. – 6a.m. Residents will be allowed to conduct business and be outdoors from 6a.m. – 7p.m. Business will be allowed to operate up to 7p.m, no later.
Also on April 19th, only senior citizens (70+) and essential workers will be allowed to access essential services. All other residents are instructed to stay indoors.
From 20th – 23rd, Residents will be able to access essential services specifically in the island’s capital, Road Town, based on persons’ electoral district. Residents are allowed to shop and access essential services within their respective districts on any day.
The schedule is as followed:
April 20th – Districts 4,5 & 6
April 21st – Districts 1, 2 & 3
April 22nd – Districts 7 & 8
April 23rd – District 9
Note: Anegada residents is allowed to travel to the capital on any day.
Governor Augustus J. U. Jaspert asks everyone to adapt to the new reality and continue to practice social distancing.
Premier Fahie made a promise that if proper social distancing measures are not practice, the territory will return to a territory-wide lock-down.
To date, the territory has had three confirmed cases of the novel Coronavirus COVID-19. Two of the three persons in the British Virgin Islands who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered.
