News of a new case of coronavirus has sent shockwaves through the territory within the last few hours.
The Minister of Health, Carvin Malone just acknowledged the case in the House of Assembly stating “we have a resident who has finally reported themselves… she is hospitalized now. She’s been locally tested and the results seem to be positive but in keeping with the protocol, this is for COVID-19, the results will be collected tomorrow by Regional Security System (RSS) who will take the results down to CARPHA in Trinidad”
The Minister further confirmed that 7 primary contacts were traced and all of them tested negative. Their tests will also be sent to Trinidad for further confirmation and these persons will be placed under a mandatory quarantine.
Information reaching our newsroom further confirmed that the patient was in a critical condition and has since been transferred to the Isolation Unit within the Dr. D Orlando Smith Hospital, retrofitted to deal with severe cases.
Minister Malone said more details are forthcoming.
