NEW CURFEW CONDITIONS AHEAD FOR THE BVI

The residents of the British Virgin Islands have been under a 24-hour curfew since March 27. Tonight, in a live press conference the government of the Virgin Islands announced that the BVI is preparing to move forward with a restricted and gradual internal reopening of the territory.

Premier of the Virgin Islands, Hon. Andrew A. Fahie explained “There will be rules, protocols and guidelines – new ways of doing things – that will define a new regular for life and business in the 21st century. These will become the regular way of doing business.”

He continued and said “What this ‘New Regular’ will ultimately look like is still a work in progress.”

It has been announced that Cabinet is allowing the current Curfew Order to be lifted from Monday April 27. The curfew will be lifted at 6:01 a.m. to 1:00 P.M. daily for the next 14 days.

Businesses will be permitted to operate between the hours of 6:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. daily.

Businesses should ensure that opening hours give sufficient time for their staff to report to and leave work within the hours of the imposed curfew.

The Premier reminds the business community that it is not business as usual.

Businesses must be inspected, approved and certified in order to re-open.

Regulations in relation to this are currently being worked on to be approved and implemented.
