With the new curfew set to begin tomorrow, April 27th, residents are perplexed on the usage of masks.
Via Government’s last press conference the use of masks by residents were “strongly encouraged” by Premier Fahie. However, many of the approved businesses have since taken to social media to announce that they will not welcome customers without a mask. Honorable Vincent Wheatley further posted a flyer to Facebook that explicitly said “no mask, no service”.
In the absence of a law many are left confused as to the measures for tomorrow onwards.
Our newsroom reached out to the Government for clarification on whether masks are mandatory or encouraged.
In response Premier Fahie, said “as we all prepare to go out tomorrow and the days ahead, let us not take chances. Remember, you must wear a face mask that properly covers the nose and mouth area when you leave your home to conduct your business. You do not need to have the mask on your face if you are alone in your private vehicle. But, if there is more than one person in the vehicle, then masks must be worn by all occupants. Masks must be worn when exiting the vehicle.”
In light of the fact that the territory has been under a 24-hour lockdown for almost a month, majority of the residents are not in possession of a mask. It is unclear how they’ll be able to purchase the protective gear if they’re unable to leave the house without one.
With safety in mind, 284 Media strongly encourage residents to purchase locally-made masks from repurposed designers like Kristen Frazer or Germaine Smith or learn to make your own at home.
Tutorials are available on YouTube on how to make same. Self-reliance is critical at this point.
Stay safe, sanitized and socially distant.
