Employees with scheduled appointments who are employed by employers listed on the approved register of Government businesses, will be allowed to collect their work permits when the Department of Labour and Workforce Development re-opens on Monday, May 4.

All customers visiting the office will be required to wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth and must adhere to the social distancing guidelines set out by the Health Emergency Operating Centre (HEOC) before and upon entering the office. The department’s cashier hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon until further notice.

Persons without appointments or the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will not be served. Employees with work permits or immigration times that have expired due to the COVID-19 lockdown are permitted to submit their completed work permit applications or collect their work permits without the updated immigration time stamp being affixed in their passports until July 31.

Employees who submitted their applications prior to the implementation of the lockdown are advised to contact the department in Road Town, Tortola at 468-4707/4708 or the Virgin Gorda office at 468-6525 to schedule an appointment.

Information regarding any other processes will be forthcoming at a later date. Persons who require other services should contact the department by email at labour@gov.vg.

The Department of Labour and Workforce Development continues to promote good labour and management practices at workplaces to ensure stable and harmonious labour relations between employers and employees, and to protect the rights, wages, working conditions, safety, health and welfare of workers through enforcement of the British Virgin Islands Labour Laws.
