The Sister Islands Co-ordination Unit within the Office of the Deputy Governor has secured two vehicles for use on Anegada and Jost Van Dyke to carry out the work of the Government.
The vehicles were purchased with the assistance of the Ministry of Finance following a meeting of the Standing Finance Committee held in 2019. The Office of the Deputy Governor made a request for vehicles for the two Sister Islands to allow for transportation to be made available for District Officers to carry out their daily functions, provide transportation for Government officials and officers when they visit the islands and to support community activities.
The request was supported with the condition that clear guidelines would be put in place for the use of the vehicles. The Office of the Deputy Governor has since submitted a paper to Cabinet on the Sister Islands Programme, including Standard Operating Procedures for the use of the vehicles.
Sister Islands Coordinator, Ms. Sasha Flax expressed her sincere gratitude to the owners of the Anegada Express and New Horizon Ferry Services who assisted with transporting the vehicles to the islands.
The keys were handed over to District Officer for Anegada Ms. Shirley Vanterpool and District Officer for Jost Van Dyke, Mrs. Carmen Blyden. The vehicles are critical resources that will play a key role in supporting distribution on these islands and reaching those who are elderly and most vulnerable in these communities.
