THE BVI PORTS AUTHORITY KEEPS THE BVI MOVING

The British Virgin Islands Ports Authority (BVIPA) is especially excited to have reopened both its Cargo and Ferry Ports to the general public today for what it considers as “Keeping the BVI Moving”.

Whilst the BVI Ports Authority’s Cargo Ports remained opened during the Covid-19 Territory wide curfew to assist with ensuring that essential cargo was delivered to the Territory, the BVIPA are pleased to announce that Cargo operations have resumed per its regular pre-curfew hours and the Ferry Ports have resumed with some modifications to its regular schedule in order to fulfill the new curfew order requirements.

Deputy Managing Director, Ms. Oleanvine Maynard noted that “we recognize that some businesses and individuals may have been inconvenienced during the curfew period but the main focus of the Ports was to ensure the safety and well-being of our team and the community at large”.  Ms. Maynard further added that “during the lockdown period, the BVI Ports Authority worked closely with HM Customs to ensure both agencies maintained the operations of the Ports and that cargo clearance was facilitated in a safe and effective manner”.

The BVIPA notes that the port is taking precautions to protect its workforce and all those who enter the facilities, its continued role in the supply chain is pivotal in keeping the BVI moving during this health crisis.
