Approximately, 3 years since the 2017 hurricane Season, The BVI Softball Association gears up to open the 2020 Women’s and Men’s Fast-pitch Softball Season.
The league was first scheduled to commence on March 21st 2020 but the league was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The BVI Softball Association have announced an official commencement date for the league’s pre-season and full season. The league’s pre-season and full season will commence on August 1st 2020 and September 5th 2020, respectively.
General Secretary of the BVI Softball Association, Ms. Bria Smith explained that the decision to re-open the season was made by the association in a meeting held on July 15th 2020.
She said “We decided on September 5th [to start the full season], to be able to get all the players and teams that were registered to give them enough time to get their uniforms and everything together and still give us enough time to complete the different works we have [to complete] on the fields.”
She added “Until then, we decided to host an official pre-season tournament with an official schedule.”
Since the end of June, teams have been giving fans a taste of what to expect in this upcoming season. Teams took the field for some friendly fun competition. The “just-for-fun” games will end this weekend, in time for the pre-season tournament.
This year’s league has 4 women teams; Synergy, That’s Ya Problem, Lady Hawks and Warrior and 5 men teams; Pirates, Storms, Power Outage, Los Macarecios and Hot Shots.
