The fire Station in the East End/Long Look community is now functional.
Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities Honourable Kye Rymer said the Government of the Virgin Islands remains committed to upgrading and outfitting fire stations throughout the Territory.
He said that the Government welcomes the partnership with the Rotary Club of Tortola in completing the East End/Long Look Fire Station, a substation of the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Service.
“I am pleased to see that the station is completely refurbished with a new roof, new floor, fresh paint on the inside and outside, new air condition unit and floor unit. Now the people of the East End/Long Look community have a functional fire station that can provide service to the people in the community,” the minister said.
Chief Fire Officer Mr. Zebalon McLean said due to limited resources, the station has not been fully operational since 2017.
He added that the station is now operating at full-service hours from Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily and is fully equipped with a new Ford 350 mini-fire appliance (truck) to assist in extinguishing fires.
Mr. McLean said that his team is grateful to Minister Rymer; Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. the Honourable Natalio Wheatley, the Representative for the Seventh District; and Leader of the Opposition and Representative for the Eighth District, Honourable Marlon Penn for their support and continued encouragement.
“I also express gratitude to the Rotary Club of Tortola and the Department of Disaster Management for their invaluable contributions to the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Service,” Mr. McLean said.
