NO CURFEW CHANGES FOR BVI; CABINET EXTENDS 8PM-5AM ORDER!


The Cabinet of the Virgin Islands has advised the National Security Council to extend the current restricted curfew for a period of seven (7) days from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. daily beginning October 1st.

Bars, cinemas, public pools, night clubs and other entertainment services are to remain closed.

The order states “for the purposes of subsection (1), no person shall be on the streets, and every person shall remain confined to their place of residence (inclusive of their yard space), from the date this Order comes into force (Thursday 1st October to Thursday 8th October, 2020 between the hours of 8:01 p.m. to 4:59 a.m. daily.”

The order details “for the purposes of controlling, suppressing or preventing the spread of COVID-19 and for the protection of all persons within the Territory, a curfew is hereby imposed from the date this Order comes into force.”

The same protocols will follow for vessels.

A person who operates a vessel is permitted to operate the vessel within the Territorial waters between the hours of 5:01 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily; and within the navigational limits East of 64.38300’W on the south side of Tortola and an area East of the dividing line between the Western most tip of Jost Van Dyke and Western most tip of Tortola (This area will be further confined by navigational limits to the North, East and South).

They are prohibited from operating the vessel
within the maritime exclusion zones and
across the territorial borders unless pre-cleared by the Joint task force and Governor in consultation with the Minister of a Health respectively.

Members of the public are urged to continue to report any suspicious activity by dialing 311 and to adhere to all safety measures such as hand hygiene, cough etiquette, wearing face masks in public, physical distancing and minimising social gatherings. Failure to comply may result in fines and penalties.

Persons who are experiencing any symptoms related to COVID-19 are encouraged to contact the Medical Hotline at 852-7650 for an assessment and an appointment for COVID-19 testing. Common symptoms include fever, cough, headache, fatigue, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, muscle aches, or difficulty breathing.
