NO OLD YEARS NIGHT CELEBRATIONS AT FOXY’S

At a recent Community Meeting held on Jost Van Dyke Tortola BVI, when asked about whether or not residents and businesses will be able to host and celebrate the annual Old Year’s Night events. Leader of Government business and Minister of Finance, Hon. Andrew A Fahie when pressed on a response said that it will more than likely be a no. While also getting a cue from the Minister of Health, Hon. Carvin Malone confirming that based on guidance from health officials, the highly anticipated Foxy’s Old Year’s Night Party will not take place, this year.

Our newsroom was present and caught up with Owner Mrs. Tessa Callwood who had this to say on the recent announcement. She said and I quote:

“Well disappointed because it’s been an unbroken history, pretty much for the 50 years that we’ve been in existence. But I think it’s necessary if Time Square is canceled and Rio de Janeiro I think is cancelling their carnival, I’m not sure about Trinidad, I think they too have canceled. But if those gigantic festivals even more gigantic events are canceling, I mean what can we expect here. I don’t think we can expect anything different, as disappointing as it is, I think it’s necessary and were happy that the word has come from Government, because many people have been asking us and we don’t want to be the one that say were canceling. So better that its them that us, because it’s now official.” Patrons from all over the world have grown used to the highly anticipated festivities which offer a variety of offerings, for example: The Uppercrust features would usually include:

· 5 Course Dinner featuring Surf-N-Turf

· Unlimited Drinks with top-shelf cocktails, premium beers, wine and champagne

· VIP dining area with private restrooms

· Plenty of party favors and noisemakers that reflect the theme

· VIP All Access Pass to the Event

·The cost for VIP services usually range around $600 per person

Last year the theme was at Foxy’s Old Year’s Night Party was “Arabian Nights” and party guests were treated to whimsical décor, complete with a flying carpet photo booth, belly dancers, genies and other themed performers and party goers usually participate and dress in costume to reflect the theme. As always, the very popular out-there or barely-there attire is always a hit. The party also caters to General Admission, and presents a wide range of Internationally acclaimed reggae artists, last year saw “Third World” who headlined the event and always features local VI Bands.

With this recent announcement in mind, many residents are concerned as to what will happen to Christmas amidst COVID, Old Year’s Night amidst COIVD and does this also possibly mean that the 2021 Emancipation Activities will also be nonexistent, particularly with Tourist returning, what are they expected to be coming to the BVI for as it pertains to entertainment?

More to come as details of the reopening protocols are expected to be released.
