BVI ROTARY FAMILY TO HOST TELETHON TO RAISE $50,000 FOR VICTIMS OF ST. VINCENT VOLCANO

On Thursday 15th April,2021, the Rotary Family of the BVI will mount a telethon with the objective of raising at least $50,000 to purchase urgent amenities needed to assist persons affected by the Soufriere Volcanic eruption in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Through a combination of Rotary International and the Pan American Health Organization, it is hoped that essential items can be immediately purchased and shipped to the nearest port for transfer to SVG.

Earlier in the day between 4:00 and 6:00 pm on the 15th, Rotaractors and Interactors will form a ‘Bucket Brigade’, collecting donations from persons on their way home to be followed later in the evening by the telethon.

Rotary has a history of successfully raising funds in disaster periods to help those impacted.

Assistant Governor Ryan Geluk

Speaking on behalf of Rotary, Assistant Governor Ryan Geluk said ‘Helping our neighbors and countries which have suffered various forms of devastation is part of the DNA of Rotary. Rotary in the BVI has been doing this for more than twenty years and we are most grateful to the community for the support that they give us every time. I encourage the BVI community to give as generously as they can, notwithstanding the difficult circumstances in which many of us find ourselves’

The telethon is expected to be carried on both 284 media, JTV, as many radio stations as possible and all social media platforms.
