SHEMAR RICHARDSON CHARGED IN THE ROBBERY THAT RESULTED IN CATHERINE PICKERING’S DEATH

Twenty-four-year-old Shemar Richardson of Gene Hill was charged for his involvement in the robbery turn murder of Catherine Pickering.

According to reports, Richardson was employed by the Big Brothers Gas Station in Baugher’s Bay owned and operated by the family of the deceased.

The charge was confirmed by newly appointed Police Commissioner, Mark Collins who expressed his desire to see all the individual or individuals responsible quickly arrested and brought to justice.

“As a result of the dedicated work of the RVIPF, we were able to bring four persons into custody. One of the four has today been charged. My detectives continue to move meticulously through the inquiry process to ensure no stone is left unturned. I have full confidence in the officers currently in charge. There is no doubt in my mind that they are more than competent, knowledgeable and trustworthy.”

“Four men were taken into custody in relation to Sunday’s robbery. Shermar Richardson, 24, of Gene Hill was charged with robbery while the other three were released pending further investigations,” the Commissioner added.

The commissioner continued “I know there are concerns with reporting information to police. This is not only locally but it is an issue internationally. However I can assure you that whatever information you pass on will be dealt with confidentially. I can also assure you that if any of my officers breach the standard of confidentiality they will be dealt with according to the code of conduct.”

The Commissioner said that he personally visited with the daughter of Catherine Pickering yesterday and gave his reassurance of the RVIPF’s commitment to finding the perpetrators.

The deceased, Catherine Pickering was gunned down in front of her Paraquita Bay home as she ran to the rescue of her daughter who was cornered by gunmen with intent to rob.

According to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force “Initial reports indicate that the local businesswoman arrived home at Paraquita Bay around 7:30pm with her day’s proceeds. Upon exiting her vehicle she heard the voice of male demanding money. The mother of businesswoman, who was at home at the time, heard noise outside and attempted to exit the house and was shot.”
