The RVIPF Major Crime Team today charged two males with murder and robbery, and one female with aiding in the incident that resulted in the fatal wounding of Catherine Pickering on April 18.
Charged with murder are Akeem Hopkinson, 22 and Shameek Grant, 28 both of Zion Hill. Both males were also charged with the possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and jointly charged with Shermar Richardson for robbery in the same incident.
In addition, one female, Tyann Smith, 20 of Freshwater Pond was charged with aiding offenders in this incident.
Commissioner of Police Mark Collins had noted in a broadcast last week that his detectives were continuing to move meticulously through the inquiry process to ensure no stone is left unturned. He said he was fully confident that the officers in charge were competent, experienced and knowledgeable.
“Early this morning I was able to visit the detectives at the station and congratulated them personally for their diligence in this matter. I am very pleased with the swift actions and work of these detectives. I also made a call to Ms. Pickering’s daughter to apprise her of the new developments.,” the Commissioner added.
Just last week, 24-year old Shemar Richardson of Gene Hill was charged for his involvement in the robbery turn murder of Catherine Pickering.
According to reports, Richardson was employed by the Big Brothers Gas Station in Baugher’s Bay owned and operated by the family of the deceased for 8 years and allegedly made the call to alert the murderers that the target was on her way home.
While he was charged for his role in the robbery, residents have been calling for the system to revise charges, adding that he was an accessory to murder and should be tried accordingly.
