BVI WELCOMES AVAILABILITY OF UNDP ASSISTANCE FOR POST-DISASTER RECOVERY

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) has participated in a UNDP virtual session on post-disaster recovery as the Caribbean remains on a ready footing during the height of the ongoing hurricane season.

Among other things, UNDP Resident Representative for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Ms. Valerie Cliff and Programme Analyst Mr. Marlon Clarke, presented on the assistance available from UNDP to help countries and territories in the subregion to begin recovery following a hurricane or other natural disaster, including damage assessments in the housing sector, among other things.

The BVI delegation was led by Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Office Dr. Carolyn O’Neal-Morton who welcomed the support offered by UNDP in the event of a natural disaster.

“The post-disaster assistance available from UNDP places the BVI in a stronger position to begin recovery, should the situation arise. I thank our UNDP partners for their commitment to the BVI and the subregion.”

Dr. O’Neal-Morton was joined by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Transportation, Works and Utilities Mr. Ronald Smith-Berkeley, Deputy Secretary Mr. Andrew St. Hilaire, Ag. Director of the Public Works Department Mr. Jeremy Hodge, Finance and Planning Officer Mrs. Carleen Mercer-Scatliffe, Director of the Water and Sewerage Department Mrs. Perline Scatliffe-Leonard, Facilities Manager Mr. Arriel Donovan, Senior Administrative Officer Ms. Jehree Clarke, Director of Communications Dr. Arlene Penn, CEO of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission Mr. Guy Malone, Director of the BVI Ports Authority Mrs. Oleanvine Maynard, Ag. Managing Director of the BVI Airport Authority Mr. Clive Smith, Assistant Secretary Mr. Malvern Brathwaite and Special Envoy of the Premier Mr. Benito Wheatley.

The UNDP session on assistance for post-disaster recovery took place on 12th August 2021.
