The British Virgin Islands has now received more than 37,000 vaccines from the United Kingdom Government, after welcoming 2000 additional vaccines into the territory on Tuesday August 31.
This was confirmed in a media release from the Ministry of Health, which said the total number of AstraZeneca vaccines received from the UK to date, now stands at 37,040.
Speaking following the reception of the vaccines at the Terrance B Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island, Acting Governor, David Archer, Jr said the new doses will expire at the end of this month.
He noted that it is important that everyone remain responsive in taking the vaccine so that assistance can continue to be provided.
“The UK’s commitment to the VI’s overall health is evident as we continue working together to ensure that our citizens are protected from the effects of the Coronavirus. It is important to note that while we continue to receive assistance, we must do our part and take the vaccine so that we can continue to receive assistance,” he stated.
Minister for Health and Social Development, Carvin Malone also expressed gratitude to the United Kingdom for their assistance and commitment to mitigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Territory. He expressed that the territory is not out of the woods and every effort should be made to ensure that citizens and residents are vaccinated so that the VI can arrive at herd immunity.
