Last evening October 5th at a meet and greet hosted by the Rotary Club of Road Town for Olympian Chantel Malone, Miss BVI Contestant number 1 Reba Smith addressed the audience and shared her platform with the BVI public.
Smith said, “Climate change is one of the biggest challenges humanity has ever faced. It affects sports along with so many other human activities.”
She asked, “How does this relate to BVI? Well we have five record breaking world class athletes, one of the most prominent being long jumper Ms Chantal Malone – the first VI athlete to reach Olympic final. This gives the BVI a perfect opportunity to have a local and global voice in the campaign for environmental protection and sustainability. Furthermore, it is our pristine BVI environment that nurtured and contributed to the health, strength, and well-being of athletes like Chantal, and I want to shout that from the top of Sage Mountain.”
Smith also donated art work for towards the Rotary Club of Tortola Auction, stating,
“At tonight’s meet and greet fundraiser where Chantal is the honored guest, I am proud to donate this original piece of art to the organizers – the Rotary Club of Tortola for auction. The artwork features Chantal as my muse and also incorporates our precious mangroves and majestic palms, to fuze the ideas of environmental protection and athleticism.”
