“Floatilla of lights” (FoL) is a house, boats and floats Christmas decoration lighting and parade paired with a shopping and culinary experience over the first two consecutive weekends (11th – floats and 18th – boats) in December, to be enjoyed by locals and tourists alike.
It aims to be the premier Christmas event which will set the bar by which all Christmas events will be judged.
The event replicates a similar event Parade of Lights done in the Cayman Islands and is centered around the decoration of boats and floats in two main categories which will be judged by the public via an app.
Additionally, organizers say they want to encourage the wider community to attend and support this event. The event competition is as follows:
● Best decorated store (both Pier Park and along the Float parade route)
● Best decorated house
● Best decorated vessel
● Best decorated floats
● Stores open throughout the event can offer promotions on the nights and raffle items
● Scrabble competition to drive shopping (Pier Park)
Entry to the competition is free of charge to all participants and spectators. Phoenix Entertainment, producers of the event, aims at making this an annual event which will take its place on the Tourism Calendar as another product of the BVI.
This event aims to be a great family friendly product, one that will be welcomed by the people and businesses of the BVI who are poised to benefit from it. It is the intention of organizers, especially during this time of COVID, to bring a feel good factor to the islands by providing wholesome entertainment while celebrating the Christmas season and wish to have maximum participation from the tenants of the Pier Park. This event is expected to further engage the cruising public and add to their overall experience.
