DEADLINE FOR PHYSICAL PLANNING APPLICATIONS EXTENDED

The deadline for qualified persons to submit applications for membership to the Physical Planning Authority and the Physical Planning Appeals Tribunal respectively has been extended to November 14, 2021.

The functions of members of the Physical Planning Authority include, but are not limited to, providing non-conflicted advice to advance the purposes of the Physical Planning Act and other relevant development planning laws of the Virgin Islands; institute, complete, maintain and keep under review a study of matters pertinent to planning the use and development of the land of the Territory.

Members must also prepare development plans in accordance with the Physical Planning Act; regulate development by the means provided by the Act, having regard to the need to secure consistency and conformity with development plans; prepare and submit to the minister for the subject reports on matters which the authority or the minister may consider necessary or desirable having regard to the provisions of the Act; and do all other things necessary for carrying out the purposes and provisions of the Physical Planning Act as may be authorised therein.

Applicants for Membership of the Appeals Tribunal, without any conflicted interests, should be able to examine the issues between the Planning Authorities and the Physical Plan Development Applicant, to determine the merits of an appeal of a planning decision having regard to the purposes of the Physical Planning Act and its relevant provisions.

Applicants for membership to the Physical Planning Authority and the Physical Planning Appeals Tribunal shall be persons not in the public service and shall be persons who have knowledge and experience in land development matters; environmental, coastal and marine matters; agriculture; commerce and industry economic and financial matters; Crown lands; housing; infrastructure and utilities; any other area of public interest that the minister considers relevant to physical planning.
